NeuroStar TMS therapy is a form of non-drug and non-invasive brain stimulation. TMS, or transcranial magnetic stimulation, therapy uses magnetic pulses to enliven dormant neurons and neural networks in regions of the brain associated with certain psychiatric conditions, thereby relieving symptoms associated with those psychiatric conditions.
Conditions treated by Santa Monica NeuroStar TMS therapy include major depressive disorder, major depressive disorder with anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. If you suffer from one of these conditions, you may want to consider NeuroStar Advanced TMS Therapy if you have found that medication alone has not effectively reduced your symptoms.
NeuroStar Advanced TMS therapy is FDA-cleared for the treatment of major depressive disorder, also known as clinical depression, in adults who have had a course of antidepressant medication with inadequate symptom relief. According to the clinical study, 83 percent of patients receiving a full course of NeuroStar Advanced TMS treatment experienced a significant reduction in their depression symptoms, with 62 percent of patients reporting a full remission from depression1.
Major depressive disorder is one of the primary conditions treated by NeuroStar TMS therapy in Santa Monica. Because of the effectiveness of NeuroStar TMS therapy, most insurance companies cover the cost of this therapy if you meet the eligibility criteria for coverage. Some insurance providers may require documentation of your MDD diagnosis and proof that you have attempted a course of antidepressant medications before approving insurance coverage.
Major depressive disorder with anxiety, sometimes referred to as anxious depression, is when your MDD symptoms are exacerbated by clinical anxiety, a condition characterized by persistent restlessness or excessive worrying. If you have anxious depression, it is important to seek treatment early, as the symptoms of anxiety can exacerbate your depression symptoms and cause a vicious cycle. For example, excessive worrying can compromise your ability to engage in social activities, and this isolation can worsen your feelings of hopelessness.
Fortunately, this condition is treatable with NeuroStar TMS therapy in Santa Monica. Studies have shown that NeuroStar TMS therapy is effective in reducing the symptoms of anxiety in addition to depression.
As with treatment-resistant MDD, most insurance companies in Santa Monica cover the costs of NeuroStar TMS Therapy for anxious depression. It is important to check with your insurance provider to make sure you understand the specific eligibility criteria and other requirements needed for coverage approval.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder, or OCD, is a psychiatric condition characterized by unwanted and intrusive thoughts that trigger compulsive and repetitive behaviors. OCD can be extremely disruptive to your ability to function socially and emotionally.
Certain types of TMS therapy are also effective in relieving symptoms associated with OCD. Research has shown that a full course of TMS therapy resulted in a substantial reduction in OCD symptoms for about 60 percent of patients. While OCD is a newer addition to the conditions treated by NeuroStar TMS treatment in Santa Monica, it has proven especially beneficial for patients who have not responded well to medication and psychotherapy.
It is crucial to check that your insurance company will cover the costs of treatment and ensure that you understand the eligibility requirements for coverage.
